On October 19, 2017, Colonel (Retired) Will Wiggins, CEO Remnant Center of Excellence, spoke before the Calvert County Board of Education about the status of the newly-dubbed, Harriet Elizabeth Brown Scholars Program.
On August 29, the work that Remnant Center of Excellence contributed to the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Pipeline was selected by the Leadership Southern Maryland Class of 2018 for further study. The project calls for developing an Action Plan for the implementation of a student-to-teacher pipeline that informs and recruits students of color on the merit of careers in education.
Documentary: 13th Showing On August 24, at the Prince Frederick Library , Prince Frederick, MD, the Remnant Center of Excellence along with a host of community partners held a viewing of the Ava DuVernay’s documentary about race, justice and mass incarceration, 13th. Nearly one-hundred county residents viewed the nearly two-hour film. And, after its showing, they enjoyed a spirited conversation on the next steps in improving the community.

Again, this year we offered competitive summer camps for kids (ages 13-17) where our youth truly soared and saw what was possible, with unlimited possibilities. The Southern Maryland Aviation & Career Camps 2017 were opportunities for imaginations to soar beyond the bounds of routine and imagining dreams of their future. Astronaut Mae Jemison, the first black female in space, once said: “Never limit yourself because of others‘ limited imagination.”
